What is Gynecomastia
Gynecomastia refers to the enlargement of male breast tissue caused by a hormonal imbalance between estrogen and testosterone. It can affect one or both sides of the breast and is often seen during puberty, aging, or in response to weight changes, certain medications, or medical conditions.
Unlike typical fat accumulation, gynecomastia involves glandular tissue that generally does not respond to diet and exercise alone.
Benefits of Gynecomastia Surgery
Surgical treatment, also known as a gynecomastia operation, can offer both physical and emotional benefits, including:

- Relief from irritation or tightness in the chest
How is Male Gynecomastia Diagnosed?
Diagnosis usually includes a physical examination, medical history, and diagnostic tests:
Medical History & Physical Examination
- Clinical history: Your gynecomastia plastic surgeon will ask about the onset of breast enlargement, pain or tenderness, duration, medications, supplements, alcohol, anabolic steroid or drug use, plus underlying health conditions (e.g., liver, thyroid, kidney diseases, hormone disorders).
- Physical exam: He will perform a physical examination, Includes palpation of breast tissue to distinguish glandular tissue (firm, concentric under the nipple) from fatty tissue. Also, he checks for breast asymmetry, lumps, nipple changes, and assesses genital and secondary sex characteristics to rule out hormonal imbalances or tumors.
