Dr. Raquel Avila is a Specialist Dermatologist with a comprehensive background spanning over 30 years in General Practice, more than 25 years of teaching as a Staff Professor in the School of Medicine of La Universidad del Zulia Venezuela in both undergraduate and postgraduate courses (including Dermatology residency). She achieved her medical degree with Summa Cum Laude honors in 1994. Continuing her pursuit of medical excellence at the same institution Dr. Raquel Avila was awarded her Doctorate in Medical Sciences in 1991 and she obtained a Master degree in Immunology in 2006. Her commitment to advance her expertise led her to the University of Alcala de Henares Spain, where she earned a Master’s degree in Advanced Dermatology in 2013 and later, she continued her formation at the Military Hospital of Maracaibo at the residency in Clinical, Surgical and Aesthetic Dermatology postgraduate specialization which she completed in 2015. Enriching her knowledge, she continued by undertaking an Advance Course in Aesthetic Medicine and multiples courses in Dermatology field, including clinical, cosmetic and laser techniques.
She is an active member of the Ibero-American College of Dermatology (CILAD). Dr. Raquel has made significant contributions as a coordinator and lecturer at numerous congresses and have been part of the formation of hundreds of new medical professionals. Her scholarly work is widely recognized, with numerous publications in both national and international Journals. Notably, her publication on “Lipidoproteinosis or Urbach-Wiethe Disease: Case Presentation and Literature Revision” earned the International Researchers Award 2020 from IJRULA, India. Furthermore, her latest study, “Primary Cutaneous Histoplasmosis after Platelet-Rich Plasma application in an Immunocompetent Patient” is been published by the American Journal of Case Report, in 2024.
Dr Raquel Avila has been practicing Dermatology for more than 11 years with deep expertise in a variety of dermatological diseases and their treatments, including common and rare clinical conditions like inflammatory, infectious and autoimmune diseases (atopic dermatitis, psoriasis, vitiligo, acne, rosacea, melasma, skin infections, nails and hair diseases), benign tumor grows, skin cancer and other sun damage related diseases among others. Additionally, she performs minor surgical procedures like biopsy of skin and nails, removal of sebaceous cysts, abscesses drainage, xanthelasmas, lipomas, rhinophyma, skin tags, and other skin grows (benign and malignant). In cosmetic she has vast experience, performing Facial Harmonization procedures (Botox- Fillers, Collagen Biostimulators), and renewing and enhancing skin quality by Skin boosters, Plasma Rich Platelets, Microneedling, Mesotherapy, Chemical Peelings, Ablative and Fractional lasers, Vascular lasers and tattoo removal.
